Parenting Tips

This morning I was reading cnn.com and fell upon this article. After the day I had with Connor yesterday (can you say "2 year old boy"), I think I will give a few of these a try.

Quirky Discipline Rules That Work

If you have any additional tips, please share them. For instance, what do I do when:

*Before Connor's bath we discuss that the water stays in the bathtub...and yet he still manages to pour three glasses of water onto the floor. I took away the cup today, vowing never for it to return.

*After a few time-outs and "look at mommy" pleas, he still takes ALL the cushions off of the couch, jumps on the unmade couch and tumbles all over the cushions (I know, I should probably just start tumbling in there with him).

*Why does he take off his diaper so much? How can I get him to stop?

He really is a cute kid and most of the time I love the silly things he does, yesterday was just more than I could handle in one day.

Hi, I'm Brooke's cousin and I love reading your blog. Your kids are so cute. I loved this article and just had to post to tell you thanks for finding it! I especially love the rule about Mom's can't work past 8pm. I am enforcing that starting today! I have the same bath time issues with my 15 month old...maybe its a boy thing cause my daughter never was a big bath splasher!

Hey Mel!! I am going to read that article now....I know it's a little early for me, but I still think about it. Also, my sister found a book she really loves called Parenting with Love and Logic, I bought it used (to be used in the future), and it is just sitting on my shelf if you want to borrow it. All I know is that she loved it and it emphasizes kids taking responsibility for their choices, and letting them learn from their mistakes. Let me know if you want to borrow it.

FANTASTIC article, thanks. I'll store it away somewhere for later retrieval.

The bath time thing is a problem for me too. To be honest though, I ignore it and have a special towel that I just hang up and use day after day. Maybe it's just all about the attention he's getting from doing it. I don't know about the diaper thing but I remember reading something about it in my baby whisperer for Toddlers book, you could try that at the library or something. I would lend it to you if I was sending another package. Tyson doesn't care about attention but I do remember reading that to toddlers, any attention is good attention.
